Starting their career in 2006 as a heavy metal supergroup formed of various members of Pantera, Mudvayne, Damageplan, and Nothingface, Hellyeah stormed onto the scene the following year with their debut self-titled album. Comprising lead vocalist Chad Gray, guitarists Christian Brady and Tom Maxwell, bassist Kyle Sanders, and drummer Roy Mayorga, the band took a swipe at the money-grabbing music industry on the LP's first single "You Wouldn't Know," landing the number nine spot on the Billboard 200, "Thank You", a poignant tribute to their deceased kin, and "Alcohaulin' Ass", which mined a country and western-tinged sensibility. The album helped establish the group as fine purveyors of anthemic metal work, and they went on to refine their sound across five studio albums, from 2010's second effort Stampede to 2019's Welcome Home, which was the last album to feature drummer and founding member Vinnie Paul before his death on June 22, 2018.
