"Sleigh Ride" is a holiday standard that was written by composer Leroy Anderson in 1948. Just like several other yuletide tunes in recent history, it was written during a heat wave. Its orchestral version was first recorded by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1949 and quickly became one of the group's signature songs. In 1950, American lyricist Mitchell Parish added lyrics that referenced sleigh riding as well as other winter activities. It has since become a beloved seasonal song, known for its upbeat and joyful melody. Over the years, "Sleigh Ride" has been covered by many artists, including Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Ronettes, whose version became a massive hit in 1963. Three decades later, American singer and pianist Harry Connick Jr. recorded a version of "Sleigh Ride" in the vein of big band jazz for his first Christmas album, When My Heart Finds Christmas (1993). Featuring several holiday classics, as well as original material, the album became the best-selling release of Harry Connick Jr.'s career.
