A great example of this is legendary country / southern rock musician Hank Williams Jr. tackling one of the most famous songs in the Great American Songbook, “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” The tune was written by Andy Razaf, Fats Waller, and Harry Brooks, as an early swing song for the Broadway musical comedy Connie’s Hot Chocolates. It then went on to be recorded by greats such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Dave Brubek, and others. Hank Williams Jr.’s version was produced by Hank Williams Jr. and Jimmy Bowen as part of Hank Williams Jr.’s 1985 album Five-O. “Ain’t Misbehavin’” was also released as the third promotional single for the album, which went on to top the Billboard US Top Country Albums chart.
