"Just the Two of Us" is an R&B/smooth jazz ballad by American saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., originally included in his 1980 album Winelight. Written by Bill Withers, who also provides vocals on the track, William Salter, and Ralph McDonald, "Just the Two of Us" is an endearing reflection on the resilient nature of true love and the peaks and valleys of being in a relationship. A shorter version of the song (the original clocks in at 7' 23") was released as a single and reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks, becoming Grover Washington Jr.'s only Top 40 hit in the United States. It also won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. In later years, "Just the Two of Us" was covered by a whole host of artists, including rapper and actor Will Smith, who sampled the song for his 1997 Top 20 hit of the same name, interpolating his own verses with the track's original lyrics.
