Givēon was given a career leg-up in 2020 thanks to "Chicago Freestyle", his collaboration with Drake. Featured as the third track from the Canadian superstar's commercial mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes, "Chicago Freestyle" saw LA singer-songwriter Givēon flex his R&B-ready vocal over a trap-laced freestyle. That same year, Givēon released two solo EPs, Take Time and When It's All Said and Done, with the former garnering a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album, and the latter hitting the Top 10 on the US Top R&B Albums chart. The following year, fresh from his top-tier exposure with Drake and his own successes, Givēon dealt out his own sultry R&B jam, an emotive, romantic single called “For Tonight,” on which he pines for his lover – but only for one night. "For tonight, I'm yours / So deny the truth / We'll stay behind closed doors / 'Cause all I wanna do is lie with you / Even though it's wrong to lie with you," he croons in the chorus.
