"Memories to Burn” is a song by country artist Gene Watson from his 1985 album of the same name. While Watson hasn't had big crossover hits like Merle Haggard or Johnny Cash, when it comes to traditional country music, he's been called “the singer's singer.” He was born in Palestine, Texas in 1943. He grew up poor, living in a converted school bus with his parents and six siblings. He says he never thought of being a professional singer because his whole family could sing as well or better than he could. He was working on cars during the day and singing in clubs at night when The Wilburn Brothers heard him and took him on the road. “Memories to Burn” reached #5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1985. Watson became a member of The Grand Ole Opry in February of 2020.
