"Welcome to the Pleasuredome" is a track from Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 1984 debut album of the same name. Released as the album's fourth single on March 18, 1985, it was penned by band members Holly Johnson, Peter Gill, Mark O'Toole, Brian Nash, and Paul Rutherford, and produced by Trevor Horn. Musically speaking, "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" sticks to the group's tried-and-true formula of rock and synthpop, characterized by its extended length, orchestral arrangements, and a sprawling, cinematic soundscape. Its lyrics present a hedonistic journey, referencing Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Kubla Khan" and drawing allusions to the Biblical stories of Adam and Eve. The "Pleasuredome" itself can be interpreted as a metaphor for both utopia and dystopia, celebrating indulgence while hinting at the perils of excess. Unlike the band's earlier Number 1 singles "Relax" and "Two Tribes," the song fell just short of the top spot by peaking at Number 2, putting an end to the group's chart-topping streak.
