Frank Sinatra is in a seasonal frame of mind on "September in the Rain." "The leaves of brown came tumbling down / Remember in September in the rain / The Sun went out just like a dying amber / That September in the rain," croons the crooner in the opening verse. Written by famed and prolific Brooklyn-born music composer Harry Warren and Al Dubin, and published in 1937, "September in the Rain" is a jazzy reflection on nostalgia from one the greatest artists of all-time. "To every word of love I heard you whisper / The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain / Though spring is here to me it's still September / That September in the rain," he sings. This glorious pop standard was famously introduced by James Melton in the 1937 musical film Melody for Two, which was directed by Louis King and starred James Melton, Patricia Ellis and Marie Wilson.
