Sometimes seeing a song from a different angle will reveal aspects of the original that you never even noticed. Such is the case with the acoustic version of British-American rock band Foreigner’s iconic 1981 mega-hit “Waiting for a Girl Like You.” Recorded as part of the Feels Like The First Time compilation released in 2011 – specifically the disc titled “Acoustique & More,” which features several classic songs re-recorded in an acoustic format – this performance puts the song under a whole different focus. And while the original version of the song was known for its distinctive synth part and electric guitar, this 2011 acoustic re-imagining trades in the electric instruments for a stately piano, a delicately strummed acoustic guitar, understated percussion, and background singers. It’s also a great showcase for lead singer Kelly Hansen, who took over vocal duties from original singer Lou Gramm in 2005. The acoustic version of “Waiting for a Girl Like You” was produced by original Foreigner member Mick Jones.
