American heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch released "Under and Over It" in July 2011, as the first single from their third full-length American Capitalist. Written by lead vocalist Ivan Moody with the rest of the band and producer Kevin Churko, "Under and Over It" was inspired by the online rumors surrounding Moody's private life. Upon its release, the track ranked first on SiriusXM's Octane weekly countdown for almost four months and became the band's first entry in the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at Number 77. It also debuted at Number 6 on Billboard's US Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The success of "Over and Under It" propelled its parent album to Number 3 on the Billboard 200 and helped it obtain Platinum certification. An outrageous, over-the-top music video directed by Ethan Emaniquis was shot in their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, in which the band made fun of all the Internet gossip.
