One of the most recognizable entries in the nü metal canon, the gothic-tinged "Bring Me to Life" helped Little Rock natives Evanescence break into the mainstream and turned the group into international superstars almost overnight. Inspired by a random conversation with a friend of a friend, as well as her relationship with longtime friend and husband Josh Hartzler, lead singer and pianist Amy Lee wrote "Bring Me to Life" with bandmates Benjamin Moody and David Hodges. It was released as a single on April 7, 2003, and was initially met with contempt by radio stations, who rejected the song solely based on Amy Lee's gender and its piano-driven aesthetics. After the track was featured on the Daredevil soundtrack, "Bring Me to Life" received high rotation on rock radio and reached the top of the charts in Australia, the UK, and Italy. The song also won Best Hard Rock Performance at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards. To this day, "Bring Me to Life" remains one of the band's biggest hits and it has since become their signature song.
