Eva Cassidy stripped back the layers of Sting-fried soft-rock for this gentle acoustic cover of the 1993 track that was first featured on the legendary UK artist's fourth solo studio album, Ten Summoner's Tales (1993), and cracked the Top 10 in Canada and Iceland to become one of became one of his most well-known songs. Eva Cassidy first tested her version out at the Blues Alley nightclub in January 1996, where she ended up recording the album, Live at Blues Alley, on which "Fields Of Gold" is featured. Eva Cassidy sadly died of melanoma ten months after the release of the album, in November 1996, and with lyrics like "You'll remember me when the west wind moves / Among the fields of barley / You can tell the sun in his jealous sky / When we walked in fields of gold," the song – which made in-roads in the charts in both Sweden and the Netherlands – took on new poignancy after her death.
