"Tightrope" is a masterclass in orchestral pop storytelling—heavy on the theatrics, with plenty of strings thrown in to contrast with the guitars. A fan favourite, the song served as the opening track to Electric Light Orchestra's acclaimed multi-platinum 1976 album A New World Record, recorded at the famous Musicland in Munich, West Germany; their second LP to be recorded at the Giorgio Moroder-created studios and the album that introduced their Kosh-designed logo to the world. In addition to holding the title of one of Electric Light Orchestra's archetypal hits, "Tightrope" became a cultural phenomenon outside of the environs of the band, providing rich fodder for sampling, with hip-hop artists such as Army of the Pharaohs, The Game, Chief Kamachi, I-20, and European rappers like Marseilles troupe Fonky Family taking a liking to the track. "Tightrope" later underwent the remastering treatment and was included on ELO's 2000 boxset Flashback.
