Beaming down with bright rays of sunny psychedelia and futuristic vocoder, "The Diary of Horace Wimp" chronicles the fictional life of Horace Wimp: a 'sad' and shy guy desperate to attract the woman of his dreams. "Don't be afraid / Just knock on the door / Well, he just stood there / Mumblin' and fumblin' / Then a voice from above," sings Electric Light Orchestra lead singer Jeff Lynne who also played guitar, piano and synthesizer on the UK band's 1979 single. Can he pluck up the courage to speak to her? Will it be happier ever after for Horace? Spoiler alert: Horace gets hitched. "The Diary of Horace Wimp" was featured on ELO's eighth studio album – the disco-dipped chart-topper Discovery – and was recorded at the Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany. The Beatlesque track became a Top 10 hit in the UK and Ireland, reaching Number 8 on the UK charts.
