Legendary R&B / funk band Earth Wind & Fire released their single “Can’t Let Go” in 1979. Showcasing the group’s trademark energy and musicality, the song features a kinetic guitar line and soul-influenced horn section, complemented by futuristic (at the time) sounding synth lines. A song about being unable to let go of a relationship, it quickly became one of the group’s most renowned songs. “Can’t Let Go” was featured in the group’s ninth studio album, I Am (1979). It was written by Bill Meyers, Maurice White, and Allee Willis, and produced by Maurice White like the rest of the album. “Can’t Let Go” peaked at Number 46 on the UK Singles chart, as well as Number 12 on the Blues & Soul Top British Soul Singles chart. Its accompanying album I Am would go on to sell over two million copies and peak at Number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, bolstered by singles such as this one and the mega-hit “Boogie Wonderland.”
