US celtic punk kingpins Dropkick Murphys mined their trademark mix of romantic, misty-eyed folk and thunderous, snotty-nosed punk for this lightning-quick track from 2003. The duet begins with a female folk-orientated verse that nods to the band's Irish roots and opens the song gently ("Murphy, Murphy, darling dear / I long for you now night and day / Your pain was my pleasure, your sorrow my joy / I feel now I've lost you to health and good cheer,") but it quickly descends into a rip-roaring, party-starting punk storm. The band come together for the alcohol-fueled chorus: "Darcy, Darcy darling dear / You left me dying, crying there / In whiskey, gin, and pints of beer / I fell for you my darling dear." "The Dirty Glass" was featured on the Dropkick Murphys' fourth studio album, Blackout, which was released in 2003 and which explored themes relating to the working class and other relatable issues.
