"It's a lovely day today / So whatever you've got to do / You've got a lovely day to do it in / That's true!" beams Doris Day, her voice as bright and cheerful as a sunbeam. "And I hope whatever you've got to do / It's somethin' that can be done by two / For I'd really like to stay!" We could all do with taking a leaf out of Doris Day's happy book. The big band singer and famous actor exudes pure positivity on this 1951 track "It's a Lovely Day Today," which was originally written by Irving Berlin for his hit 1950 musical Call Me Madam (later adapted for the silver screen in 1953 where "It's a Lovely Day Today" was brought to life by Donald O'Connor and Vera-Ellen). This traditional, swinging vocal pop stunner was released at the beginning of a decade rich with new musical adventures and milestones. "It's a Lovely Day Today" was later covered by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Astrud Gilberto, and more.
