"Endless Love" is an iconic duet between American singers Lionel Richie and Diana Ross. Recorded post-Richie's Commodores era, the romantic ballad was featured in Franco Zeffirelli's film adaptation of Scott Spencer's novel Endless Love, with its acclaim surpassing the movie's success. The song was later released in 1981 via Motown and dominated the US charts, securing its spot as the second-best-selling song of the year, only outdone by Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes." It topped the Hot 100 for nine weeks, from August 15 to October 10, and scaled other charts, from the Billboard R&B and Adult Contemporary to a seventh spot in the UK. The track's popularity catapulted both singers to new levels of pop stardom, making its way to Lionel Richie's 1982 self-titled debut album and Diana Ross' 1981 twelfth studio LP, Why Do Fools Fall in Love. Their soul-stirring rendition earned a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and clinched the 1982 American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Single. It was later covered by R&B singer Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey, whose version peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994.
