Country and Irish luminary Derek Ryan cut his teeth as a member of much-loved Irish boy band D-Side in the early naughties, logging notable success in Japan with three full-length albums before closing the curtain on their career in 2006. However, that was seemingly just the start for Derek Ryan, who launched his solo act shortly after, swapping mainstream pop for country and Irish. His debut solo album A Mother's Son arrived in 2010 and he quickly rose through the ranks of Ireland's fabled country and Irish scene, gaining a reputation for his energetic live performances. A highlight of Derek Ryan's live shows is this 2014 track "Irish Medley," through which he fully leans into his heritage with a fun-loving stash of tracks, putting his snappy stamp on traditional Irish folk songs "The Rattlin' Bog," "Rare Ould Mountain Dew," "Courtin' in the Kitchen," and "Whiskey in the Jar," as well as traditional children's song "I'll Tell Me Ma."
