"Gods of War" is a song by Def Leppard from their most successful album Hysteria. The album, which sold over 20 million copies, wasn’t easy to make. They started the album with producer Robert "Mutt" Lange who then quit due to exhaustion. The band tried to produce the record themselves but were unhappy with the results. Drummer Rick Allen flipped his Corvette which led to injuries requiring the removal of his left arm. The band stood by him as he relearned to play drums using a custom electric/acoustic kit. Lange returned to help the band finish the album but was in a car accident and needed some time to heal from a leg injury, and then lead singer Joe Elliot got the mumps. Elliot said he was inspired to write "Gods of War" after watching world leaders on the news. The song serves as an anti-war protest song. "We're fightin' for the gods of war but what the hell we fightin' for?"
