"Pictures of Home" is a song by the English rock band Deep Purple from their most successful album Machine Head. The band had been touring heavily and wanted to capture that live sound on their upcoming album so they traveled to Montreux, Switzerland to record. They hired the Rolling Stones' mobile studio, and block booked the Montreux Casino as the venue, but the night before the recording session, an audience member threw a flare during a Frank Zappa concert causing a fire that burned the casino to the ground. Luckily there were no fatalities. The incident inspired Deep Purple's biggest hit, "Smoke on the Water". The lyrics of "Pictures of Home" reflect the unrest of the time. "I'm alone here / With emptiness eagles and snow / Unfriendliness chilling my body /And whispering pictures of home."
