English heavy metal trailblazers Deep Purple 'got more than they asked for' on their 1974 track "Might Just Take Your Life." Heading down a more boogie-orientated path with a greater reliance on groove, the song was featured on the band's hit eighth studio album, Burn, which made it to Number 3 on the UK Albums Chart, Number 9 on the US Billboard 200 and also topped the charts in four European countries. "Might Just Take Your Life," was the album's lead single and also marked Deep Purple's first UK single in two years. New members, a pre-Whitesnake David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass and vocals), brought their dueling vocals into the mix, with the former opening the song: "I got more than I asked for / There isn't nothing I need / I took all till I had more / I'm always taking the lead / Old man shaking dice down on the street / Try'n to make a living somehow / But I'm really sure about getting things sorted out / And I'm getting ready right now," while Jon Lord is on hand for a showstopping organ ditty.
