"Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree / Christmas Eve will find me where the love light gleams / I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams / I'll Be Home for Christmas," he croons in a voice creamier than a jug of eggnog on a winter's evening. Taken from the crooner's seminal festive LP, The Dean Martin Christmas Album, (1966) "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is short but sweet – a song that serves to remind us all of the joys of coming home for Christmas. It was originally written by the lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent and recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby, who entered the Top 10 with his rendition of the Christmas standard, which was written during World War II, and is sung from the yearning perspective of a soldier stationed overseas.
