"Hang on to Yourself" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. The track, which almost serves as a bridge between nostalgic 1950s rock and roll and the impending punk era, was first released in 1971 by David Bowie's band Arnold Corns. "Hang on to Yourself" features an emblematic riff with rockabilly influence, as well as abrasive guitar sounds that would become more popular later on. The Arnold Corns version of the track was released as the B-side to "Moonage Daydream." Just about a year later, David Bowie's own solo version was released as part of his seminal album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972). The song later went on to make the rounds across several compilation albums and B-sides of various singles. Beyond its rock heritage, the song's opening bars were also an influence on electronic music, becoming a cultural touchstone after influencing the rhythms present in the Casio MT-40. This sound would go on to inspire a multitude of electronic artists.
