"Thank You for Being a Friend" is the much-loved theme song from The Golden Girls. The popular sitcom aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992. The catchy song was written by Andrew Gold for his third album and later covered by jingle singer, Cindy Fee, for the Golden Girls version. The TV series starred Betty White, Beatrice Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty, as four senior singles living together in Florida. All four stars received Emmy Awards. "Thank You for Being a Friend" was the perfect theme for the series, which revolved around friendship. It has become one of the most recognizable TV theme songs. The success of the song surprised Gold who considered the song "just this little throwaway thing" that he wrote in about an hour.
