In 1986, Australian-New Zealand rock band Crowded House took the world charts by storm with their eponymous studio debut, which included the international hit single "Don't Dream It's Over." Despite an initially tepid response to the album's first single "Mean to Me," which peaked at Number 26 on the Kent Music Report chart, the LP finally reached Number 1 thanks to the global success of the power ballad "Don't Dream It's Over," their most commercially successful effort to date. It also included singles like "Now We're Getting Somewhere" and "World Where You Live," two singles that helped further boost the band's popularity in North America. The latter, a glossy mid-tempo track with a distinct 1980s feel, was written by lead singer Neil Finn and is said to be about a man trying to figure out his lover's innermost thoughts. Shortly after its release as a single, "World Where You Live" went to Number 43 on the Australian Singles Chart.
