Chris Stapleton joins the legions of American artists who have put their voice to the US national anthem. Backed by electric guitar, the eight-time Grammy-winning artist performed his impassioned version of "The Star Spangled Banner" live at the Super Bowl LVII in 2023, and brought down the house. Decked head to toe in black and donning sunglasses, he became the third consecutive country singer to perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl, following Mickey Guyton in 2022, and Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan's duet in 2021. 2022 also saw the release of Chris Stapleton's expansive fifth studio album Higher, which was released in November and produced by Chris Stapleton, Dave Cobb (plus acoustic and electric guitar), and his wife Morgane Stapleton (backing vocals, synthesizer, and tambourine). Higher was the follow-up to the Kentucky-born star's fourth studio album of 2020, Starting Over.
