"Bye Mom" is a song by Chris Janson from his album of the same name. The country artist wrote the touching song with his friend Brandon Kinney. In an interview with PEOPLE, he explained that Kinney had been going through a very challenging time watching his mother go through the final stages of her life. A few days after her death at the end of 2020, Janson woke up in the middle of the night with the "Bye Mom" song idea. He sent Kinney a "call me when you wake up" text and the two wrote the song together on Zoom. The song is about a mother's unconditional love which can only truly be realized after she's gone. "When you're crying more than you're writing in a co-write, you know you've got something," said Janson.
