"Hearbeat" is a song by American actor and rapper Donald Glover, better known by his stage name Childish Gambino. It was released as the second single from his major-label debut Camp on November 15, 2011. Driven forward by electronic drums and a buzzing synth bassline, the hip house track was written by Donald Glover with Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, who wrote the music for the American sitcom Community. Its lyrics address the aftermath of a troubled breakup in which both people have moved on but still keep seeing each other on the side. Upon its release, "Heartbeat" reached Number 54 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and was signaled by critics as one of the album's highlights. It also entered the R&B charts in the UK, where it peaked at Number 29. Camp, its parent album, was released simultaneously with the single and also received critical acclaim, hitting Number 11 on the Billboard 200 and Number 2 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
