From "Wild World" to "Where Do the Children Play?” and "Father and Son," some of Cat Stevens's most enduring hits can found be on his formative fourth album, Tea for the Tillerman, (1970) which was later reimagined as Tea for the Tillerman 2 in 2022. "Miles from Nowhere" may not have garnered as much fame as the aforementioned tracks, but it's a captivating listen nonetheless. Rendered in Cat Stevens's spiritual and existential brushstrokes, on "Miles from Nowhere,” the wandering artist treads a path of self-discovery, one that would later come to define his entire oeuvre. "Miles from nowhere / Not a soul in sight / Oh yeah, but it’s alright / I have my freedom / I can make my own rules / Oh yeah, the ones that I choose / Lord, my body has been a good friend / But I won’t need it when I reach the end," he sings in the second verse, reminding us all of the ephemerality of life.
