After selling over 1 million copies of their 1966 Top 10 single "For What It's Worth," Canadian-American band Buffalo Springfield returned a year later with the moody psychedelic rock piece "Mr. Soul," one of the singles from their sophomore album, 1967's Buffalo Springfield Again. Released as a B-side to the more popular single "Bluebird", the track was written by Neil Young shortly after experiencing an epilepsy attack after a show with the band in San Francisco. Additionally, it can also be interpreted as a deeply personal reflection on his struggles with fame and rock'n'roll stardom. Despite not having reached any official charts, "Mr. Soul" went on to become a staple of Neil Young's repertoire, showing up in several live and studio albums by the Canadian singer-songwriter. Since its release, it has been covered numerous times by artists from all genres, including Cher, Rush, Everly Brothers, and Iron & Wine.
