"Foolin' Around" is a song by American country singer-songwriter Buck Owens. It was included in his second studio album for Capitol Records, 1961's Buck Owens Sings Harlan Howard. It was the second collaboration between the Texas singer-songwriter and legendary country singer Harlan Howard after the 1960 Top 10 single "Excuse Me (I Think I've Got a Heartache)." Driven forward by copious amounts of slide guitar, fiddle, and Buck Owen's twangy vocal delivery, "Foolin' Around" is a classic example of the Bakersfield Sound, which offered a more upbeat and lively alternative to the highly orchestrated material coming out of Nashville during those days. Its lyrics are sung from the point of view of a heartbroken man growing increasingly tired of his significant other's constant infidelities. Shortly after its release in January 1961, "Foolin' Around" reached Number 2 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. In time, it became one of Buck Owens' most beloved singles, and was later covered by Patsy Cline and The Jordanaires, Waylon Jennings, and Dwight Yoakam.
