Breland has been bridging the gap between hip-hop, soul and country since first springing up on the scene in 2019, stepping out with his viral debut single "My Truck" and dropping his guest-packed debut album three years later, Cross Country, which featured the likes of Keith Urban, Mickey Guyton, Thomas Rhett, Ingrid Andress, and Lady A and which cracked the US Billboard 200 chart. Co-written by Breland with Zachary Manno and Haley Mae Campbell and contained on the extended edition of his debut album, Cross Country: The Extra Mile (2023), "Cowboy Don't" is an upbeat barnstormer primed for line dancing. The crowd-pleasing song, which evokes some of the best bits of the 1990s and shimmers with traditional-sounding steel guitar and dobro, is anchored by a cheeky central hook that sings to his convention-defying aesthetic. "If you want a different kinda rodeo," he teases in the catchy chorus. "I like doin' things that a cowboy don't."
