After gaining nationwide exposure during his three-year stint on Paul Whiteman's TV Teen Club and playing with a couple of local bands in his native Philadelphia, American singer and actor Bobby Rydell went on to launch a successful solo career of his own in the late 1950s. Early singles like "Kissin' Time" and "We Got Love" were both hits in their own right, reaching Number 11 and 6 on the pop charts, respectively. Both songs were included in his studio debut We Got Love (1959), which obtained Gold status after selling over a million copies. Things snowballed from there and, in 1960, Bobby Rydell scored the biggest hit of his career with "Wild One," an infectious rock and roll tune that climbed to Number 2 on the Billboard charts. Written by Dave Appell, Kal Mann, and Bernie Lowe, "Wild One" proved to be a career-defining moment for Bobby Rydell, whose popularity waned by the mid-1960s with the arrival of the British Invasion.
