A dose of dark-humoured reality, "The Twelve Pains of Christmas" features church bells, synths, plus some of the worst things about the season. Parody song maestro Bob Rivers took his blueprint from the English Christmas Carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas" to pen "The Twelve Pains of Christmas," and scored a Christmas music radio hit in 1987. The track was contained on his gold-certified album Twisted Christmas, a tongue-in-cheek festive frenzy that's as warped and funny as the title suggests. Here, everyone from unwelcome relatives ("We Wish You Weren't Living With Us") to Santa Claus ("Chimney Song") is ripe for parody. The album inspired a whole raft of festive-themed parody albums from Bob Rivers, including I Am Santa Claus, More Twisted Christmas, and Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire.
