After delivering two solid LPs that combined the burgeoning new wave aesthetics of the late 1970s with a dash of punk rock energy, New York-based combo Blondie were ready to make the leap into the big leagues of pop music. In 1978, the band entered the studio to start working on their third full-length with Australian producer Mike Chapman, whose credentials included a string of hit singles for UK acts The Sweet, Suzi Quatro, and Smokie. Released as the album's first single only in the United Kingdom, the evocative "Picture This" is a heartwarming love letter from lead singer Debbie Harry to guitarist and romantic partner Chris Stein. Written by Blondie members Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, and Jimmy Destri, "Picture This" climbed to Number 12 on the Official UK Singles Chart and Number 88 in Australia. Boasting a more polished sound and a plethora of catchy pop hooks, its parent album Parallel Lines finally came out in September 1978, and marked the beginning of the group's commercial breakthrough in the US, reaching Number 6 on the Billboard 200.
