"Waiting for the Thunder" is a song by American country rock band Blackberry Smoke, released as the lead single from their fifth album, Like an Arrow, in July 2016. Entirely written by lead vocalist and guitarist Charlie Starr and produced by the band, the track has been described by the members of Blackberry Smoke as a straightforward rock'n'roll song with 1980s production values. Its apocalyptic lyrics, on the other hand, address the volatile state of the modern world, criticizing capitalism, religion, and the military complex. Just like the rest of the tracks in the album, "Waiting for the Thunder" came together rather quickly, in about 15 minutes or so. Despite not having entered any official charts, the song became a staple of the band's live repertoire over the years.
