Peerless blues leader and one of the world's greatest-ever guitarists, B.B. King has royalty etched into his name. The Delta bluesman began his career in the early 1940s and maintained a strong grip on the Billboard R&B charts until the 1980s. "Night Life" was originally written in 1959 by the equally legendary Willie Nelson, who found inspiration for the song during one of his trips from Pasadena, Texas—where he was living at the time—to the Esquire Ballroom in Houston. For his exhilarating take on the song in 1967, B.B. King added saxophone and a spectacular, slow-burning guitar solo while he wails the on-brand lyrics: "Yeah, just listen to the blues, people / Listen to what they’re sayin’ / Yeah, just listen to the blues, people." "Night Life" has also been covered by several other artists over the years including Ray Price, Doris Day, and Frank Sinatra, occasionally under the alternate spelling of Night Life."
