During their fertile '80s period, R&B hit-makers Atlantic Starr wove together the tenderness of disco and soul with the occasional bite of electrofunk. Turning to the universal symbol of good luck for creative inspiration, the group brought "Touch a Four Leaf Clover" off the page with the smouldering voice of lead singer Sharon Bryant, who later ceased her tenure with the group to pursue a solo career not long after this track was released, replaced by Barbara Weathers. Issued as a single from Atlantic Star's 1983 album Yours Forever – which was also significant in being the group's last album to be produced by James Anthony Carmichael – "Touch a Four Leaf Clover" peaked at number 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number four on Billboard’s R&B chart in 1983 and was later covered by Erykah Badu covered on her 1997 neo-soul masterpiece Baduizm, under the new title of "4 Leaf Clover".
