In 1993, American band Asleep at the Wheel decided to pay tribute to the music that had inspired them during their formative years; namely, the work of Western swing group Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. This led to the recording of their 1993 tribute album Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, which included covers of songs made famous by the group. One such song is "Corrine, Corrina," a much-covered traditional country blues song. While it is unclear who originally wrote the song due to its deep roots in American musical tradition, it has been recorded by numerous artists in various genres since the 1920s. Asleep at the Wheel brought their unique version of Western swing to the song, collaborating with American country music duo Brooks & Dunn on vocals. The song, featuring characteristic Western swing elements, presents a man's longing for Corrina, a woman who's left him. The lyrics express his deep yearning and loneliness without her, making it a typical blues lament. While Asleep at the Wheel's rendition of "Corrine, Corrina" did not enter any charts at the time of its release, its parent album, Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, peaked at Number 35 on the US Top Country Albums chart.
