The movie stars Antonio Banderas as a former mariachi musician-turned-vengeful-assassin called El Mariachi who returns to a small town to settle the score. Sung in a plaintive minor key by Antonio Banderas himself, “Cancion del Mariachi (Morena De Mir Corazón)" encapsulates the movie's dusty spaghetti Western aesthetic with cascading acoustic guitar and an emphasis on storytelling. Backed by a band, the tune embraces traditional Mexican mariachi music as Antonio Banderas passionately wails: "Me gusta tocar guitarra / Me gusta cantar el son / El mariachi me acompaña / Cuando canto mi canción."
