There are versions of "The Little Drummer Boy" by everyone from Justin Bieber to Pentatonix and of course, the unlikely duo of Bing Crosby and David Bowie, whose "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" single went to number three in the UK. In 1981, Canadian adult contemporary icon Anne Murray threw her hat into the ring and recorded this stripped-back interpretation of the golden oldie first written by American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 and immortalised by Harry Simeone Chorale in 1958. No stranger to Christmas music, Anne Murray focussed on the percussive aspect of "The Little Drummer Boy" for her own spellbinding incarnation that appeared on her 1981 album Christmas Wishes. The LP kicked off a flurry of Anne Murray festive albums, with the likes of Anne Murray Christmas, (1988) The Season Will Never Grow Old (1993), What a Wonderful Christmas (2001), and Anne Murray's Christmas Album (2008) all following in its footsteps.
