After making her debut as a professional performer with Detroit soul group Chapter 8 in the late 1970s, American singer Anita Baker went on to achieve mainstream success in the next decade thanks to her impressive three-octave vocal range and a silky-smooth blend of R&B, jazz, and pop music. In 1987, she won the Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female category at the Annual Grammy Awards for her second studio album Rapture (1986), while also taking home the Best Rhythm & Blues Song award for the single "Sweet Love." Only a year later, Anita Baker considerably upped the ante with 1988's Giving You the Best That I Got, her first album to hit Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Besides the chart-topping title track and "Just Because," the LP also featured the Gary Taylor-penned midtempo ballad "Good Love," a song about romantic yearning that would later be interpolated on A Tribe Called Quest's 1996 hit "Stressed Out."
