Amy Winehouse asked the question on everybody's lips in her soul-baring 2003 song, "What Is It About Men." Featured on her landmark debut album, Frank, on this harrowing track she get to grips with her troubled relationship with her father. "Understand, once he was a family man / So surely I would never, ever go through it firsthand / Emulate all the shit my mother hates / I can't help but demonstrate my Freudian fate," she begins in the opening verse. The 2015 critically acclaimed biopic about Amy Winehouse,Amy, directed by Asif Kapadia further held a mirror up to the relationship, but this song certainly unleashed the turmoil. Amy Winehouse confirmed that "What Is It About Men" was based on her father during a live performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2004. "Writing it made me realise a lot about myself and why Dad cheated. I’ve grown to realise he’s not a big bastard, just a man with a dick," she said.
