Their festive ubiquity began three years later with the release of Christmas with The Chipmunks volume one, and another three volumes followed in 1963, 2007, and 2008. The original incarnation of the novelty hit written by Ross Bagdasarian (under his David Seville moniker) picked up three Grammy Awards in 1958—Best Comedy Performance, Best Children's Recording, and Best Engineered Record (non-classical)—and later re-entered the charts thanks to the release of the hit film Alvin and the Chipmunks in 2007. This version of the tune reached number 66 in the US.
