Alessia Cara whisks us away to a land of sweet dreams, meditation, and patchouli candles on her 2021 reverie "Sweet Dream," which was featured on her third studio album In the Meantime. "Is it too much to ask for a sweet dream? / Need a step back from my feelings / Life is not so bad when I'm sleeping / Is it too much to ask, too much to ask for a / A sweet dream? / For a sweet dream," she coos in the chorus, her voice sliding over cascading strings and a sweetly warped, vaguely "Mr. Sandman"-esque backdrop. The song explores that most eye-watering of topics; insomnia ("8:31, I'm slurrin' every word now / I pray this cold coffee helps me with the rebound / How does everybody I know know how to sleep sound?) and was released as a companion track to the "Shapeshifter" single. "Sweet Dream" was given a live airing by Alessia Cara from Niagara Falls on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
