"Write It In Red" is one of Alan Jackson's favorites from his new album Where Have You Gone. Jackson shared a bit of the backstory of the song on his YouTube channel saying that heartbreak songs aren't as popular as they used to be in country music but he got an idea for a heartbreak song where the woman was the heartbreaker. Jackson thought of a scenerio where the broken hearted guy would tell her he didn’t want to hear any excuses and that if she wants to tell him anything, she can take out her lipstick and write it in red. Jackson said he saw that request as a nod to adultery and The Scarlet Letter. "And, I don't wanna hear / What's going through your head / Just take out your lipstick and write it in red."
