"I parked my car around back / I've got the shades pulled down / I told everybody including my mama / I was leaving town / But I've been right here / Since you've been gone / Belly-up at the bottom of a bottle / Listening to George Jones," sings Alan Jackson, musing about lying low over a neo-traditional twanging country backdrop. Capturing the plaid-adorned heyday of '90s country, "Just Playin' Possum" was released in 1991 and featured on Alan Jackson's sophomore album, Don't Rock the Jukebox. The top-tapping tune serves as a tribute to fellow country star George Jones, with whom Alan Jackson kept a close friendship over the years. George Jones has popped up in various guises in the music of Alan Jackson and in 2008, was a surprise guest at Alan Jackson's "CMT Giants" ceremony. Now a bona fide country veteran, Alan Jackson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017 by Loretta Lynn and into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame the following year.
