Although he achieved widespread recognition during the 1990s with his trademark neotraditional country style, it wasn't until 2006 that American country artist Alan Jackson made his gospel debut with the album Precious Memories. The idea behind the project arose after the Georgia native recorded a song for his father-in-law's funeral at The Rukkus Room Recording Studios. Unlike the albums that came before it, Precious Memories is entirely comprised of well-known Christian hymns such as "Blessed Assurance," "Are You Washed in the Blood?," and "How Great Thou Art." The album also features a heartfelt rendition of Charles Austin Miles' "In the Garden," a gospel standard composed in 1912 that was later recorded by the likes of Perry Como, Elvis Presley, and Willie Nelson. Even though the album didn't yield any commercial singles, Alan Jackson's version of "In the Garden" quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its enduring message of hope and faith.
