By the time their fifth studio effort ABBA: The Album came out in 1977, the Swedish four-piece had become an international pop juggernaut in their own right, topping the European charts with releases such as Waterloo (1974), ABBA (1975), and Arrival (1976). The LP marked a stylistic shift for the band, which tuned into the zeitgeist of the era by adopting a more mature sound influenced by FM-friendly soft rock, as well as some elements from progressive rock. It also included the track "Move On," a waltz written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson whose optimistic lyrics emphasize the fleeting nature of life and the importance of not dwelling in the past. Prior to being released, the song had several working titles, including "Yippee Yay," "Big John," "Joanne," and "Love for Me Is Love Forever." A Spanish version of "Move On" was also included in their 1980 album Gracias por la Música with lyrics by Buddy and Mary McClusky.
